Wee burglar won't be prosecuted MIAMI (UPI) Police decided not to proseucte a 7-yearold second grader who had burglarized 21 homes and spent his loot on ice cream and candy. The culprit who stole as much as $300 in valuables per home in the last six weeks was released to the custody of his grandmother. The grandmother spanked the youngster when she learned of his activities. Dade County detective Phil Cowart said the boy burst into tears when he was caught Thursday. "He knew it was wrong," said Cowart, who also has a 7-yearold son.

"He's a helluva cute kid. I really felt sorry for him." Cowart said the youngster began talking small change, but was encouraged by older youths to steal watches, other jewelry and small portable radios to sell. Cowart said he had suspected for some time a youngster was responsible for the break-ins because of the small size of some the windows used. He was alerted to the 7-year-old by neighbors who caught him entering a house but let him go because of his age. Cowart said the boy, would knock on the door and enter through an open window if there was no answer.

He said the youngster lives with his grandmother and seven other children. His parents apparently are separated and living in New York.
