Valentine’s Day is a special occasion because it’s a day to celebrate love. Planning and cooking a special meal is a great way to show someone that you really care about them.

Do you want to plan a romantic meal for Valentine’s Day, but dinner is not an option because of schedules or because of some other schedule conflict? Here are some options for Valentine’s breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

Most people associate Valentine’s Day with romantic candlelit dinners, but there’s no reason why the other meals of the day can’t be special as well. Whether it’s a homemade breakfast or a special brunch at a restaurant, there are plenty of ways to make every meal romantic.

Breakfast

Not surprisingly, many Valentine’s Day breakfast recipes are heart-shaped variations on familiar favorites. Both Taste of Home and CDKitchen offer recipes for almond French toast hearts, adding to the sweetness of the dish (and the Valentine’s Day color scheme) with a garnish of strawberries.

French toast is delicious and can be topped with maple syrup and fresh fruit for some added tastiness. If your Valentine has a sweet tooth, French toast topped with fresh strawberries makes the perfect breakfast!

One nice thing about French toast is that it saves easily and tastes great reheated the next morning.

Other easy breakfast ideas include the fan-favorite: pancakes! Taste of Home’s Sweetheart Pancakes recipe forgoes the traditional pancake stack and spreads three pancakes out to allow a whipped cream heart to occupy the center of the dish. The heart is then filled with cherry sauce to give it the appropriate appearance. The recipe makes four servings. Pancakes only require a few simple ingredients, making them the perfect choice for Valentine’s Day morning.

CDKitchen has some more elaborate ideas for the perfect breakfast for Valentine’s Day. The Heart Breakfast Ring features seven dough hearts in a circle, along with an almond filling and snipped cherries. The Breakfast Heart Casserole places an egg and bacon (or sausage and ham) casserole in a heart-shaped dish.

Brunch

If you don’t feel like cooking yourself and want a more elaborate early to midday Valentine’s meal, there are many restaurants that offer specially-themed brunches on or before Valentine’s Day.

Should you find it more romantic to prepare a brunch at home, Williams-Sonoma offers a guide that includes recipes for French-style baked eggs, cider-glazed sausages, raspberry-lemon muffins, and mimosas.

Lunch

A romantic lunch at the most romantic time of year is easy with a little planning and preparation. Valentine’s Day is a day that we can all celebrate, and we need to be sure we attend to ourselves and those closest to us amid all the hustle and bustle. Here are some menu ideas:

Menu

Oysters In Cream – Purchased Soup (Oyster) Crackers

I’m not a huge fan of oysters, but apparently, I’m in the minority because so many people I know love them! With that being said, I have not personally tried this recipe, but a friend shared it with me:

Slowly cook the oysters in their juice until the edges curl, add just a bit of cream and butter. If you follow a recipe for oyster stew, don’t add all the liquid, and you’ll be pleased with the result.

Lemon Sorbet

It can be purchased but is so much better when made, up to a week ahead, of fresh lemon juice and simple syrup.

* Grilled Lamb Chops

* Sugar Snap Peas, Sliced Water Chestnuts

You can grab the sugar snap peas from the freezer section of the grocery store and the water chestnuts from the canned Oriental foods section.

* Salad Of Mixed Field Greens

Buy in a bag at the supermarket; be sure to wash and refresh. Add a few slices of strawberry and toasted almonds. Find a very light, slightly sweet vinaigrette.

Dessert

A popular Valentine’s Day treat is little chocolate pots or Petit* Pots de Chocolat:

2 cups chocolate chips

2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

Pinch of salt

Pistachio nuts

Place into a food processor. Pour over 1 1/2 cups of very hot milk, blend until smooth. Pour into small cups, chill until ready to serve, when you will top with whipped cream and a generous sprinkle of salted pistachio nuts.

Drinks

Water with ice and two or three slices of lemon.

A bottle of Champagne or something else that you like.

Coffee to your taste.

Finish your meal with something savory, perhaps some cheese cookies:

* Cheese Cookies

3/4 cup butter

1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 1/2 cups flour

3/4 tsp paprika

1 tsp salt

Cream butter and cheeses in a food processor, add remaining ingredients. Process to complete the dough. Roll into a log, wrap and chill. Slice and bake in a 350-degree oven for about 12 minutes until very lightly browned. Makes about two dozen cookies.
