Long before European settlers arrived, indigenous communities, primarily from the Secwepemc (Shuswap) and St’at’imc (Lillooet) Nations, inhabited the area, cultivating deep connections to the land and developing rich cultural traditions. Their presence predates the rush by millennia, evidenced by archaeological sites and oral histories that speak to their enduring legacy.

However, remnants of its bustling past still endure, offering glimpses into the region's vibrant history. Today, efforts to preserve its heritage highlight its significance as a tangible link to the pioneering spirit and resilience of those who shaped the Cariboo's early days.
