Memorial rites set for Henry riede 84 Memorial services for Henry riede 84 a re tired Cleveland lawyer and consulting electrical en gineer will be in Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights (United Church of Christ) Coventry Wey mouth roads at 2 pm Jan 5 Mr riede died Thursday in Hanna House of University Hospitals He was born in St Joseph Mo and was grad uated from the School of Engineering of the Univer sity of Missouri He worked as an electrical engi neer here studied law and was graduated from the old Lake Erie School of Law 3201 Euclid Ave He practiced both professions until he retired several years ago He was a member of Eta Kappa Nu an honor ary engineering society the Ohio Professional Engi neers Al Koran Shrine here Charity Masonic Lodge of St Joseph Mo and was a member of the Lake Erie Wildflower Club and the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland Survivors include his wife Linnea Mr riede lived at 891 Ravine Dr Cleveland Heights Irving A Gilbert Services for Irving A Gilbert 70 president of the Wallace Schwartz Co wholesalers of cigars cigarettes tobacco candy and other prod ucts will be in the Berkowitz Kumin memorial chapel 1985 Taylor Rd Cleveland Heights at 1 pm today Gilbert died Thursday in the Lutheran Medical Center His home was at 18501 Hilliard Blvd Rocky River He started with Wallace Schwartz in the 1920s and was sales manager prior to becoming president in 1908 Subsequently the company be came a division of Safier's Inc 8700 Harvard Ave SE Mr Gilbert was a sales manager for in recent years He was a former member of the Tobacco Round Table and a member of the Lorain Country Club Mr Gilbert was a native of Brooklyn NY Survivors include his wife Lillian and a daugh ter Mrs Warren Maus Schaffer dies was welfare director s' SjftL I Schaffer photo John Schaffer 73 Cuya hoga County welfare director for 21 years died yesterday in St Augustine Manor Services will be tomorrow at 10 am in St Christopher Catholic Church 20141 Detroit Rd Rocky River Mr Schaffer joined the county as a social worker in 1935 lie resigned in 1966 11 was born in Germany and was brought to Cleveland at age 6 He was graduated from West Technical High School where he had been an all scholastic quarterback At Ohio State University where he took a BS degree in business administration he was a colle giate middleweight boxing champion and a memberf the football and wrestling teams He turned down several offers to become a professional in boxing or football to work as a sales nan for his father a building contractor He later joined the County Relief Administra ion forerunner of the welfare department He was superintendent of the Wayfarers Lodge 1936 and 1937 was named business manager inder welfare director Bell Greve in 1938 and be welfare director in 1945 Survivors include his wife Maryane a daugh er Mrs Donald Claeys sons John Jr and Jichael and two grandchildren 4rs William Goldstein Services for Mrs William Goldstein 96 hon red in 1970 for her years of volunteer work at the lewish Community Center and in the Cleveland lebrew Schools Auxiliary will be in the Berko witz Cumin memorial chapel 1985 Taylor Rd Cleve and Heights at 11 am today Mrs Goldstein died Thursday in Hillcrest Hos pital Mayfield Heights She was a life member of Menorah Park Jew sh Home for the Aged a charter member of the Mothers of Israel and a member of the Bikur Chol nr Sick Relief Society She was also a member of other organizations nchiding the Heights Jewish Center the sisterhood if Warrensville Center Synagogue had supported he Jewish National und and was a life member of ladassah Mrs Goldstein the former Ray Lisdovsky lorn in Poland came here as a young girl Survivors include sons Dan Teddy and Aaron and daughters Mrs Leah Lichtenstein Mrs Daisy Eisenberg and Mrs Sam inkle Her husband is lead Mrs Goldstein formerly lived at 1547 War rensville Center Rd South Euclid William A Rolland William A Rolland a for mer biology teacher for 36 years at Lincoln High School died ri day in the Aristocrat South Nurs ng Home Parma Heights Mr Rolland was the chair man of Lincoln biology depart ment when he retired in 1963 His home was at 7810 Wainstead 'Parma was a cofounder and first president of the Cleveland Teachers Credit Union ft A I Born in Jamestown NY Rolland he was graduated from Baldwin Valfece College in 1921 He received his degree in 1927 from Ohio State University Before moving to Cleveland Mr Rolland taught four years at William Nast College in Kiangsi Province Survivors include his wife Margaret daugh ers Mrs Glenn Sell and Mrs
