As it was, he cleaned up with his third quadruple of the week and climaxed his record winning production with a spectacular victory aboard Tallahto in the $38,950 Hawthorne Handicap that brought a mighty roar from the rooters. It was' almost uncanny, the way Pincay did it. Tallahto, a distant seventh after a half-mile, flying in the final strides to overtake Sister Fleet by a nose in a scorching 1:20 35 for the 7 furlongs. "The time was only four-fifths off the world record of 1:19 45 that Triple Bend set here in 1972. i But Pincay was none too pleased with himself.

"I looked like a sack of potatoes coming to the wire," he said, "but we got there, anyway." It was the third nose victory in a row Pincay scored Saturday. His first; winner, Windy Getaway in the second race, held on by the comparatively deci-, sive margin of a neck. Pincay, who was limited to three winners Friday, has totaled 15 for the week to tie for the second time this season the Hollypark mark that Johnny Long-den established in 1948. Pincay also produced 15 winners during the opening week. The muscular 27-year-old Panamanian will have six chances to break the record this afternoon before he leaves for the East to ride favored Judger Monday in the Jersey Derby.

Pincay, leading the nation as well as Hollypark in races won and money won, has 69 winners this season. He has moved 18 days ahead of his pace last year when he rode a record 116 winners at Hollypark. In the second race he kept the $3.80 favorite, Windy Getaway, going just long enough to beat No Dispute by a neck in a finish that required a photo to be certain, nonetheless. ThatNwas the easy one. Pincay started his streak 'l of three noses in row with Sawtooth at $5 in the sixth race, barely getting up in the last step.

He did the same with Fair Test for a $10 upset in the seventh. Tallahto, a 4-year-old daughter of Nantallah trained by Charlie Whit- tingham, paid $7 for the win and earned, $23,200 for her owner, Mrs. Howard B. Keck. The race was not without a casualty, however, with the classy New York invader, Wanda, having to be vanned off the track after it was all over.

First reports indicated she had received some suspensory damage, and part of her right front hoof had been torn away. It was considered likely by her trainer, Jimmy Conway, thaher racing career had been ended by the injuries. Hoofbeats Astray became the grass champion at Santa Anita by traveling long distances on the turf, but he took an even more roundabout route to reach Hollypark for today's $125,000 Invitational Turf Handicap for which he will be high weight at 128 pounds and probable favorite This will be Astray's first start since winning the Capis-trano Handicap at the Arcadia track, but he stopped for a visit in New York on his way to Inglewood. Agitate, making his first public appearance since finishing third in the Kentucky Derby, will work one mile today. Bill Shoemaker will be aboard for the 12:30 drill Miguel Yanez scored $12.20 upset with Mythical Summer in the fifth race, the first win of his Hollypark comeback In 35 attempts Penny Ann Early got her third mount of the meeting and finished sixth with the 42-1 longshot, Gettin' There, in the third race.
