Ava S I have a lot of thoughts written in a notes document, but it's way too many for a rotten tomatoes reviewsolid 4 star movie it's great Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Katie Q It's sweet. A little cheesy, but it still makes me cry. I think Shailene did a great job. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review chitown2bayarea Great movie, however the acting could have been better and I feel like the chemistry was just off. I would recommend watching it if you need a good cry. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Blu B A Classic Romance. It does inadvertenly pull on the heart strings with it's subject matter but it doesn't do it like how lots of lesser films of this genre do to make up for a lack of substance. It never forgets to have interesting characters and solid direction above all else and it clearly shows here as everything about this is really well made. The two main leads have great chemistry and it feels like they are characters that their whole character is their disease. But at the same time, in a subject manner like this it's very hard if not almost impossible to not have some degree of tugging on the heart string with the subject manner that feels a little manipulative. I don't really know how you would get around it or work within that better than this does. The only minor complaints are besides some situations feeling a bit over the top and tugging like them planning their own funeral is it can meander here and there getting to the key points. Certain events like Gus & Hazel bonding before Amsterdam and afterwards can feel like stuff is just sort of happening without much direction. I feel this probably could've been under 2 hours also and not lost anything. The characters are so well done though and it's so well made it really doesn't matter much though. It's really good still and heartfelt at times. Anyone who is a fan of the source material, the actors in this, the director, or romance films will like this a lot. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Alyssa C It's cute, predictable, and cheesy it was a good movie, but just not a great one. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Alec B I haven't read the novel, so I can't claim to know if the story or characters works better there. It's not without some good scenes (anything with Willem Dafoe) or solid performances from the whole cast, but this film addresses complicated issues too simplistically. Yes there isn't an attempt to hide the hard truths of inevitable death but neither the very on the nose dialogue or the "wise beyond their years" characters register as believable. The Fault in Our Stars | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Wendy Ide Times (UK) The subject matter — a pair of teenage cancer sufferers meet and fall in love — could have been mawkish mush, but there’s a sharp, abrasive wit and anger that tempers the tear-jerking with humour. Feb 13, 2023 Full Review The Fault in Our Stars | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Rachel Fields Bitch Media The reason that The Fault in Our Stars works so well is that its main draw (the teenage love story) is tied so expertly to its emotional core (Hazel's relationship with her parents). Jan 21, 2021 Full Review The Fault in Our Stars | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Jim Slotek Toronto Sun The Fault In Our Stars could indeed become this generation's Love Story -- mildly implausible, but genuinely moving. Rated: 4/5 Jan 6, 2015 Full Review The Fault in Our Stars | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies It actually presents us with situations and a relationship that feels genuine yet uncertain because of the dark cloud hanging over it.
