Sidney Daily News, Monday, June 20, 1977 Page 2A obituaries Leonard N. Simpkins LEWISTOWN Leonard N. Simpkins, 55, R.R. 1, an employe of Monarch Machine Tool was dead on arrival Friday at 11:10 a.m. at Bellefontaine Mary Rutan Hospital.

He died from injuries received when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by car at the intersection of Ohio 235 and Ohio 274. A native of Runa, W. he was born Nov. 19, 1921, son of Mrs. Ollie (Wheeling) Simpkins, R.R.

5, Wapakoneta, and the late Roy Simpkins. On Aug. 18, 1946, he and the former Pauline Bell were married. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs.

Larry (Diane) Vermillion, R.R. 1, Lewistown, Mrs. George (Cheryl) Keller, R.R. 1, Russells Point, and Miss Jenny Simpkins, at home; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Brown, Lima, and Mrs.

Willard (Mary) Oakley, R.R. 2, Lakeview; a brother, Leon, Wapakoneta; and his mother. Mr. Simpkins was a member of the United Methodist Church, Lewistown, and American Legion, Sherer Post, Jackson Center. He was a World War II veteran and also owned and operated Leonard's Garage, R.R.

1, Lewistown. Services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview, with the Rev. Ralph Tucker and the Rev. Lowell L.

(Sonny) Medley, 50, 4705 Loy Road, died Friday at 11:27 p.m. at Piqua Memorial Hospital. He was born March 5, 1927, son of William and Mildred (Foston) Medley. Survivors include his widow, the former Alberta Grant; six children, R. J.

Medley, Frank, Bobby, and Miss Margaret Medley, all of Fletcher, Mrs. Dorothy Stafford and Mrs. Onie Stafford, both of Troy; five grandchildren; his mother; a grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Clemons, Piqua; three brothers, William Jr. and James, both of Piqua, and Paul Edward, Dayton; five sisters, Mrs.

Argailia Haynes, Mrs. Dorothea Taylor, Mrs. Lenora Bowles, and Mrs. Marla Payton, all of Piqua, and Mrs. Mary Franklin, Sidney.

A sister is deceased. Mr. Medley was a machinist at Hobart Brothers, Troy. He was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church, Piqua. Services will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Sandusky native of DeGraff, died Saturday at 3:20 a.m. at the Bellefontaine Mary Rutan Hospital. He was born Sept. 27, 1890, son of James and Mary (Hook) Taylor. On Sept.

5, 1910, he and the former Ruby S. Smith were married. She died Nov. 8, 1975. Survivors include two children, Dr.

James A. Taylor, Anderson, and Mrs. Leah Matthews, Bellefontaine; six grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. James R. (Catherine) Fuson, DeGraff.

A daughter, five brothers and two sisters are deceased. Mr. Taylor was a retired yard clerk for the former New York Central Railroad. He was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Bellefontaine, and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks Lodge 610. HENRY Richard D. (Dick) Brandon, 20, R.R. 1, was dead on arrival Friday morning at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was transferred there from Gibbons Hospital in Celina following a car-truck accident at 10:30 a.m. on U.S.

33 at the Celina-Mendon Road in Mercer County. He was born Jan. 6, 1957 in North Star, son of Mrs. Mary (Nieberding) Ahlers, and the late Dale Brandon. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a stepfather, Bart Ahlers; five sisters, Mrs.

Joseph (Elaine) Oen, Russia, Mrs. William (Connie) Anthony, Cleveland, Miss Doris Brandon, Burlington, Joan and Marie Brandon, at home. Two brothers are deceased. Mr. Brandon was employed at Huffman Manufacturing Celina, and Electronics, Mendon.

He was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church. Services were held today at the church with the Rev. Raymond Bauer officiating. Burial was in the St.

Louis Cemetery, North Star. William Bertke ST. HENRY William Bertke, 77, 82 Railroad died Friday afternoon at Coldwater Community Hospital. He had been ill six weeks. He was born April 24, 1900 in Cassella, son of Fred and Philomena (Fiely) Bertke.

The SEE member, using a citizen's band radio to relay information to police, reported seeing two persons at the telephone booth on St. Marys Avenue.

He stayed behind the car until it was stopped by police. Arrested was Thomas J. Brennan 19, 10402 Florida who was charged with theft of street signs from Fourth and Fifth Avenues and New Street. Also arrested was a 17-year-old boy. Officers discovered the street signs in the car after it was pulled over.

Police said it was uncertain whether charges would be filed by United Telephone Co. or by the Shelby County Sheriff's office (the telephone incident occurred in the county's jurisdiction), and no charges had been reported this morning. Blaze destroys Pool home QUINCY Logan County 'Sheriff's Deputies investigated a blaze at the home of A. C. Pool, R.

R. 1, early Friday after a passing motorist saw the truck engulfed in flames. The house and its contents were destroyed. No estimate of damage was available because a.m. assault.

Charles Taylor, 108 Mills DeGraff, reported he had been assaulted by an unidentified man at Ohio Avenue and Court Street. He said the man had asked him for money, but he refused to give the man any. Yesterday p.m. vandalism. Mrs.

weather picture Edna Jackson Mrs. Edna Jackson, 91, Snoqualmie Falls, native of Quincy, died June 11 at a nursing home there. She was born Sept. 14, 1886, daughter of Park B. and Charlotte (Putnam) Zorn.

Her husband, Elmus Jackson, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, several grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Campbell, Sidney, and Mrs. Lottie Bulle, Piqua. A brother and a sister are deceased.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Baptist Church. Services were held Tuesday at a church in Snoqualmie Falls and burial was at cemetery there. Lodema Gray ST. PARIS Mrs.

Lodema Gray, 61, 122 E. Main a selfemployed accountant and member of the St. Paris Village Council, died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. at Kettering Memorial Hospital. She had been ill several months.

A native of Champaign County, she was born Oct. 28, 1915, daughter of Lee and Etta (Armstrong) Benham. Her husband, Allen Gray, died Feb. 21, 1975. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs.

Roger (Sue Anne) Calvert and two grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was a member of the St. Paris Zion Lutheran Church; the Pythian Sisters Lodge 307, St. Paris; the Central Committee of the Champaign County Republican Party; the Champaign County Republican Women's Club; the Soroptimist Club, Urbana; the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union; and the Board of Directors of Parisian Homes, Inc.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Richeson, Wickham and Atkins Funeral Home, St. Paris, with the Rev. Frank Gross officiating. Burial will be in the Fletcher Cemetery.

Hanover died Saturday at 9:20 a.m. at St. Marys Joint Township Dist. Memorial Hospital. He was born April 22, 1893 in Shelby County, son of Joseph and Caroline (Gauspohl) Helmsing.

Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ada Athmer, Dayton, Mrs. Frances Meyer, Dayton, and Mrs. Loretta Meyer, Minster. Two sisters and two brothers are deceased.

Mr. Helmsing was retired from the Minster Machine Co. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster, and a charter member of the Knights of Services will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev.

Joseph Pax officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, today from 2 to 9 p.m. There will be a wake service at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

William Shock ST. PARIS William (Bill) Shock, 71, 339 W. Main died Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Piqua Memorial Hospital, A native of Washington, he was born Feb. 24, 1906, son of Harry and Margaret (Poundstone) Shock.

Survivors include his widow, the former Thelma Frock; three sons, Willian N. Columbus, Leo, Urbana, and James, Merritt Island, three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A sister is deceased. The Rev. Marvin Dowson will conduct services tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Bertha Mae Shellhouse, Versailles, a son, Joyce, Colorado Springs, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stover was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. Services were held today at the Miller-Hill Funeral Home, Versailles, with the Rev. Gordon Jones officiating.

Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Erma L. Etter BRADFORD Mrs. Erma L. Etter, 91, R.R.

1, died Friday at 2:40 a.m. at the Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Covington. She had been a patient there since February. She was born Aug. 3, 1885 in York County, daughter of Abraham and Matilda (Strickler) Sprenkle.

Her husband, Rudy Etter, died in August 1968. Survivors include two children, Mrs. Ezra (Agnes) Hawbaker, Dallas Center, Iowa, and Elwood, Bradford; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A sister and a brother are deceased. Mrs.

Etter was a member of the Old Order River Brethren. Services were held today at the Miller Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Williams found dead HUNTSVILLE Percy C. Williams, 66, Huntsville Trailer Park, shot and killed himself in an apparent suicide Friday morning, Logan County Sheriff's Deputies said.

Deputies said he was found in his trailer by a neighbor about one hour after his death. Huntsville Rescue Squadsmen transported the body to Mary Rutan Hospital about 12:35 p.m. Deputies said Williams used a handgun. They reported he had been in poor health and was apparently very despondent. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Van Horn Funeral Home, Lakeview, deputies reported.

Fire damages Minster home MINSTER About $200 damage was caused by a fire at the home of Robert Kemper, 154 S. Hanover Thursday, according to Minster Firefighters. Mrs. Kemper discovered the blaze about 3:15 p.m. when a smoke detector alerted her while she was in the basem*nt of her home.

Firefighters said she had left a container of paraffin on the stove, which ignited and spread fire to a plastic covering on a wall near the stove. Driskell injured in mini-bike mishap Tim Driskell, 14, 704 Clinton was reportedly in fair condition this morning at Wilson Memorial Hospital after being injured in an accident involving a mini -bike yesterday. at 1:23 p.m. Driskell and some other boys had reportedly constructed a ramp at 639 Norwood Ave. and were jumping the minibikes off the ramp when Driskell lost control of the bike.

He reportedly received a head injury in addition to sever- the family is on vacation. Quincy Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the homehad already been gutted. Deputies speculated the fire may have been caused by faulty wiring in electircal circuits or appliances. Police log Wagner, 804 S. Bruce J. Gariety, 28, 237 Forest was charged with disorderly conduct on a complaint by Gloria Welsh. a.m. free meal. Shirley Temple, a cook at the White Front Cafe, Ohio Avenue, reported two men and a woman had left without paying for breakfast.

They reportedly left in a small white car. Friday p.m. bothered by boy. Candy Ritter, 600 Hardin-Wakakoneta Road, reported a juvenile boy was bothering Dorsey's Westowne, 315 Michi-' gan St. He reportedly threw rocks at her car as she left.

Gross, 2352 Aldrin Drive, reportedly rolled down a hill and struck a parked car owned by Marianne Helmlinger, 716 Chestnut Friday at 6:37 p.m. Several other accidents were also investigated by Sidney Police during the weekend.

Police said the car had been parked by Debra Wyer, 10633 Well Road, Anna. Her two-yearold daughter had been left in the car and apparently put the car in gear. It rolled down the hill and struck the parked car, pushing it into a fire hydrant. Severe damage was listed to the parked car, with slight damage to Gross' car and some damage to the fire hydrant. No injuries were reported.

Ave reportedly collided with a car driven by Brenda Burnham, 20, 2400 Wapakoneta yesterday at 2:56 a.m. Police said DeVelvis' car was westbound on North Street and Burnham's car was northbound on Main Avenue when they collided in the intersection. Police said they were unsure who had the green light.

Moderate damage was listed to both cars. A car driven by Lori L. Bricker, 16, 2117 Wells Drive, reportedly struck a pole on the property of Ronald Hill, 511 Charles Saturday at 9:33 p.m. Police said Bricker's car was backing, and the passengers' door was open. The door struck the pole, causing moderate damage.

A van driven by Pamela J. Carey, 25, Pemberton, reportedly struck a parked car owned by Jack C. Brown, 417 E. North Saturday at 1:10 p.m. Police said the van was pulling from a parking space at Omart's, Michigan Street, when it sideswiped the parked car.
