Latest News Today Live Updates, June 24, 2024: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has reached Patna on Monday, may take those arrested in NEET-UG paper leak case to New Delhi for questioning, news agency PTI reported. They are likely to collect evidence from Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in the case, which earlier, found burnt papers with 68 questions matching the ‘original’ exam papers shared by the NTA, according to a report in The Indian Express. The Union education ministry’s high-level panel for exam reforms and reviewing functioning of the NTA is also set to meet today.

Meanwhile, the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is set to begin on Monday, with newly elected members taking the oath of Members of Parliament (MP). Bhartruhari Mahtab — who has been elected for the seventh consecutive time from Cuttack, Odisha — took oath as the pro tem Speaker in front of President Droupadi Murmu. He will administer the oath to newly elected MPs in the House. A resurgent Opposition, meanwhile, is expected to crank up pressure on the NDA Government on several fronts, especially over the alleged irregularities related to NEET-UG and NET exams.

Weather update today: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into parts of North Arabian Sea and Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the next 3-4 days. Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds are very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim today, the forecast stated.

NEET-UG paper leak case: CBI team reaches EOU office in Patna

A CBI team from Delhi reached the office of the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police in Patna on Monday morning in connection with its investigation into the allegations of irregularities in medical entrance exam NEET-UG, officials told news agency PTI.

"The CBI officers are collecting evidence related to the case from the EOU," an official said.

The CBI is also likely to file multiple FIRs to probe the destruction of evidence, and also register disproportionate assets (DA) cases against some of those accused who are public servants, he said.

"A DA case may be registered against arrested accused Sikander Prasad Yadvendu, a junior engineer in Danapur Town Council, as he reportedly acquired huge assets that are disproportionate to his known source of income," the officer told PTI. (PTI)
