HANNAH, INVESTIGATORS HAD A BIG AREA BLOCKED OFF. HANNAH: THEY DID. THIS IS THE BOX TRUCK AT THE CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATION A FEW HOURS AGO. IT ENDED UP SHUTTING DOWN SEVERAL STREETS DOWNTOWN AND EVEN SHUTTING DOWN 794 FOR AT LEAST 1.5 HOURS THIS AFTERNOON. OUR CAMERAS WERE HERE AS SEVERAL AREA AGENCIES WERE ON SCENE. THEY SENT IN A ROBOT TO APPROACH THE TRUCK. MPD SAID SOMEONE ALERTED THEM TO THE SUSPICIOUS BOX TRUCK PARKED UNDER THE OVERPASS AROUND 1:30 THIS AFTERNOON. AND OUT OF PRECAUTION, THEY BLOCKED OFF THE AREA TO TRAFFIC AND KEPT PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE AREA. NOW, THIS IS RIGHT IN SIGHT OF MILWAUKEE’S INTERMODAL STATION. A TRAIN FROM CHICAGO ARRIVED IN THE MIDST OF THE INVESTIGATION. PASSENGERS, FORCED TO MEET THEIR RIDES SEVERAL BLOCKS NORTH EAST OF THE TRAIN STATION. WHAT IS YOUR REACTION TO THE POLICE PRESENCE AS YOU STEP OFF THE TRAIN? >> I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON. A suspicious truck prompted a bomb scare in downtown Milwaukee, leading to a two-hour shutdown of the area.
Milwaukee police have reopened the area around the city's Intermodal Station near 5th and Saint Paul after giving the all-clear.Earlier this afternoon, the presence of a suspicious box truck led to a 90-minute shutdown of the downtown area, including a portion of Interstate 794.Multiple Milwaukee-area agencies responded to the scene and utilized a robot to approach the truck. According to the Milwaukee Police Department, police were alerted to the suspicious truck parked under the overpass around 1:30 p.m.As a precaution, the area was blocked off to traffic, and people were kept away from the immediate vicinity.A train arriving from Chicago during the investigation forced passengers to meet their rides several blocks northeast of the train station.Train passenger Milton Mounder said, "It's kind of scary because you don't know what's going on if someone got hurt at the train station or what." Another passenger, Byron Champion, commented, "It's just irritating because I had to go a different direction, but I'm OK now."No suspicious items were found in the truck, and the all-clear was given just after 3 p.m. Streets in the downtown area, including the I-794 overpass, have since reopened to traffic
